The rumors still persist, even though no real proof exists. Let's set things straight. Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have not broken up, at least not yet.The National Enquirer reported last week that Gomez dumped Bieber because he was texting Jasmine Villegas. Their claim is baseless and most likely not true.
We did our best to debunk the Enquirer's report last week, but because of new reports, including one by Fox News, that continue to refer to the Enquirer's story, we feel the need, to once again, tell you why you shouldn't believe the National Enquirer.
The Enquirer uses the typical tool of the tabloids, the unnamed source. An unnamed source used by a tabloid should be a red flag that there is something fishy about their report. Journalists are NOT required by law to reveal their sources. If a tabloid uses an unnamed source, it can't be proven if that source ever existed or if it was completely made up.
In addition, this texting story came to light weeks ago, but it was just recently that Gomez decided to end it? The more likely explanation is that the Enquirer need a story and twisted this one to their liking.
Also, reporting that Gomez wanted to stay friends with Bieber is the perfect cover. It is proof that the Enquirer can't back up its story. Reporting that she wants to remain friends allows for a reconciliation between her and Justin. So, if they are seen out together in the near future then the Enquirer can just claim that they reconciled.
Don't believe the rumors. Until it is confirmed with a credible source that has a name, or by Selena Gomez or Justin Bieber themselves, there is no reason to believe, at this time, that they have broken up.
